The Birmingham Police Department is conducting an unclassified death investigation. The incident occurred on Thursday, September 28, 2023.
The victim will be identified by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office.


Just before 2 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 1500 Block of Tuscaloosa Avenue on report of a Community Member Who Discovered a Body. Officers arrived on the scene and then were led to the 500 Block of 16th Street Southwest where they observed a decomposed body in a field near the alleyway.
The victim could not be identified. Officers observed suspicious circumstances surrounding the victim’s death. Homicide and Special Victims Unit detectives responded to the scene. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene and then took care and custody of the victim. The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an
autopsy on the victim to determine the cause of death.
