The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation following a shooting that occurred on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The victim’s identity will be released pending family notification.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 900 Block of 47th Place North on a report of a burglary in progress. While officers were enroute, the call was upgraded to a report of shots fired with a person being wounded by gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported the male to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates the deceased male was allegedly attempting to burglarize a residence when he was fatally wounded. At this time, no one is in custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
