The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation following a shooting that occurred on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
The victim’s identity will be released pending notification of next of kin.
At approximately 8:49 p.m., South Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification and multiple calls of a Person Shot in the 4600 block of Roscoe Avenue North.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded and transported the victim to UAB Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff. At this time, no one is in custody. Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident. Updates will be provided as they become available.
