TVA Detectives Need Information Regarding Damage to an Energy Facility
May 26, 2020
According to officials with TVA Police the Valley Creek Substation in the 3000 block of 18th Street North Bessemer sustained damage from apparent gunshots. At approximately 8:00 pm May 19, 2020, TVA technicians received a low oil alarm at this location. Subsequent examination revealed damage to a substation transformer resulting in oil leakage onto the ground. Technicians determined this to be connected to the bullet holes discovered in the equipment. Detectives believe the gunshots damaging the transformer occurred between 5 pm and 7 pm on the same day. 9mm shell casings were found nearby, some compressed, leading detectives to believe the shots may have been fired from a vehicle. There have been previous reports of shots fired in the area, some of which have struck nearby businesses.
