The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Monday, August 7, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:
Darcy Joseph, (33), B/M, of Hueytown, Alabama.

Just after 8:00 p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 5000 Block of 41st Way North on report of Shots Fired. Officers arrived on the scene and entered an alleyway when they observed a vehicle that had been shot into. Upon further investigation, officers observed the victim unresponsive inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was in an alleyway where individuals are known to hang out. There is no one in custody.
