The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, July 7, 2023. The victim will be identified after notification to the next of kin.
At approximately 6:55 PM, North Precinct officers were dispatched to apartment complex in the 3200 Block of 17th Avenue North on report of a Person Shot. Officers arrived on the scene and observed an adult female lying unresponsive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and then transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.


On Saturday, July 8, 2023, UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in a verbal argument with an adult female suspect. During the argument, the suspect shot the victim. North Precinct officers detained the female suspect and a separate male for questioning. North Precinct officers transported the suspect and the adult male to BPD Headquarters for questioning. After being interviewed, the female suspect was booked into the Birmingham City Jail under a 48-Hour Felony Extension for Capital Murder. The victim and suspect both have a child with the same male.
