The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:
Morris Brown Scott, (40), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 12:23 a.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Shot call in the 1700 Block of 32nd Place North. Officers arrived on the scene and then observed the victim lying unresponsive outside an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers also observed an adult male lying near a sidewalk suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and then pronounced the victim deceased. BFR personnel transported the second adult male to a
local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation suggests both victims were hanging out in the 1700 Block of 32nd Place North when an unknown suspect(s) fired shots at them. There is no in custody.
