Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office needs the public’s assistance.

On August 24, 2021, approximately 10:00 pm, deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were directed to the 7600 block of Cedar Mountain Road in the Pinson area on report of a vehicle on the side of the roadway with its lights on. Upon arrival deputies found a black Chevrolet Avalanche on the side of the roadway with headlights on. Further investigation led deputies to a body lying near the vehicle. The person, later identified as Steven Wayne Williams, was determined to have sustained an inflicted wound from which he died where deputies found him.

Detectives believe that the victim was tending to an issue with his vehicle in a very remote location that would have been poorly lit during the time this occurred. They further believe someone travelling in a different vehicle happened upon the victim and had an exchange with him leading to the victim sustaining his inflicted wound. At the present time they are uncertain as to the nature of the exchange, whether the assailant knew the victim, and whether the assailant was provoked in any way.

The answers to these questions are critical to this investigation and detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office are asking for anyone having information that could help answer them to contact Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama. The information you provide to Crime Stoppers leading to the charge and arrest of an identified suspect could result in a cash reward up to $5,000.
