Homicide Investigation – For Immediate Release
UPDATE: A 51-year-old suspect has been charged in the weekend ambush killing of a man at a Birmingham gas station.
The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
The victim has been identified as: Demetrius Antwan Davis Jr., (25), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.
At around 6:00 PM, South Precinct officers were dispatched to the Circle K Gas Station (1700 Tallapoosa Street) on report of a person shot. Officers arrived on the scene when they observed the victim lying unresponsive in the parking lot suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was pumping gas at the location when an unknown suspect approached him and began firing shots at him. The victim was struck by gunfire; the victim returned fire before collapsing. There is no one in custody.
