Homicide Investigation on Valley Crest Drive

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin. Just after 8:30 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to 660 Valley Crest Drive, The Park at Sunderland Apartments on a report of a Person Shot. Upon arrival, officers observed an adult male victim lying unresponsive in the breezeway of an apartment building, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was outside of his apartment when an unknown suspect approached, fired gunshots, fatally wounding the victim before fleeing the scene. There is no one in custody at this time. We will provide updates as they become available.
