Homicide Investigation


The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

The victim will be identified upon notification to the next of kin.

At approximately 12:42 p.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a ShotSpotter notification in the 1000 block of 47th Street Ensley. While en route, officers were also notified of a single-vehicle accident in the 1300 block of 47th Street Ensley.

Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle that had crashed into a residence. An adult male, who was the driver of the vehicle, was found inside unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was operating his vehicle on 47th Street Ensley when an unknown suspect fired shots into the vehicle, causing the victim to crash into a residence in the 1300 Block of 47th Street Ensley. No one was injured inside the residence. A suspect has been arrested and placed on 48-hour felony hold pending formal charges. We will provide updates as they become available.
