205-254-7777The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, July 23, 2023.The victim is an adult male; he will be identified upon notification to the next of kin. At approximately 8:50 PM, BPD officers working at Railroad Park (1600 1st Avenue South), reported a Shots Fired call over the radio. Officers located an adult male in the park suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and then transported the victim to UAB Hospital. UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.
The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in a verbal argument with a separate party. BPD officers detained two adult males for questioning. Patrol officers transported the two males to BPD Headquarters. Homicide detectives will interview the two males.
