Ryan Colby Johnson Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:
Ryan Colby Johnson, (25), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 1:15 AM, a BPD officer was working in an off-duty capacity at a nightclub in the 100 Block of 3^rd Avenue North when he shots fired in the area. Upon further investigation, he observed the victim lying near a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries. UAB Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in an argument with an unknown suspect(s) that led to shots exchanged in the roadway. There is no one in custody.
