The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation. The incident occurred on Friday, October 27, 2023.

The victim has been identified as:
Domminick Peterson, (47), B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 8:42 a.m., West Precinct officers were dispatched to a Person Down call in the 3900 Block of Walnut Avenue. Officers arrived on the scene and observed the victim lying unresponsive off the roadway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The preliminary investigation suggests a community member observed the victim and called 911. Officers discovered the victim had been shot. Currently, there is no one in custody.
